Dr Upendra Baxi
An acclaimed academic and professor of law, Dr Upendra Baxi has held the post of Vice-Chancellor at the University of Delhi and South Gujarat University and taught in international universities. He has authored over 300 scholarly publications, including notable works on human rights, and in 2011 he was awarded the Padma Shri.
Upendra Baxi was born in Rajkot (now Gujarat) in 1938. His association with Sri Swami Satyananda and Bihar School of Yoga dates from his formative years. His father, Sri Vishnuprasad Venilal Baxi, was a learned Sanskrit scholar keenly interested in yoga and a devotee of Sri Swami Satyananda who hosted Sri Swamiji during his Mumbai tours.
Dr Upendra Baxi and was a key contributor to the early development of the International Yoga Fellowship Movement and became its first General Secretary. He was also involved in the formation of Bihar Yoga Bharati. Dr Baxi currently resides in Delhi with his wife Sannyasi Vishwaprem (Prema Baxi), who has recently authored a book, My Spiritual Journey with Swami Satyananda.
