Swami Sivamurti Saraswati
Swami Sivamurti was born in Australia. As a young adult, she left Australia and travelled the world in search of her guru. This journey eventually came to an end in India, when she met Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati at his ashram in Munger, India. She lived with him and underwent training in all branches of yoga. Living with such a renowned spiritual master profoundly deepened her knowledge of yoga.
In 1977 Sri Swami Satyananda gave her the mandate to take yoga to Greece. In 1984, the residential ashram of Satyanandashram Hellas was established outside the village of Paiania, east of Athens, to provide a place where people could live a yogic lifestyle and undergo training in the deeper aspects of yoga.
In 1993 Swami Sivamurti was recognized by the International Yogic Fellowship Movement as a Yogacharya, master of yoga, and in 2004 she was appointed an official emissary of Satyananda Yoga by the Bihar School of Yoga. Swami Sivamurti is a member of the Education Council of Bihar Yoga Bharati, Munger, India, an Institute of Advanced Studies in Yogic Sciences. She is also a guardian of the Satyananda Yoga Academy Europe and a member of its Governing Body. Based in Athens, Swami Sivamurti also travels widely throughout Greece and other parts of the world propagating yoga.
