Vikas Kumar was one of the original members of Bal Yoga Mitra Mandal (BYMM), the yoga movement for children aged 10 to 14 years that is “for the children, by the children, of the children”. The children of Bal Yoga Mitra Mandal conduct all their own yoga classes and yoga shivirs, and train their members as yoga propagators, instructors and teachers. In addition to learning yogic practices, many other activities are also conducted by the children, facilitating a balanced and harmonious development and exposing a new generation to different levels of yogic culture.
In 1995 this children’s yoga movement began with 7 children in Munger who wanted to learn yoga. With the inspiration, support and guidance of Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati this nucleus has grown to include over 100,000 children across Bihar and India who are well-versed in and devoted to yoga. As the children have grown up over the years, they have also established other yogic organizations, the Bal Yuva Yoga Mitra Mandal for those aged 14 to 18, and the Yuva Yoga Mitra Mandal for youths over 18.
Vikas Kumar was a member of BYMM from 1995 to 2004. He received his MA in Yoga Psychology from Bihar Yoga Bharati and was the Gold Medallist. In recent years he has worked as a counsellor and a manager.
